Organization:
The Ryan McElroy Childrens Cancer Foundation
No of Years of Service:
12 years - 40 hours per month
Nominee Services:
After watching his son and so many other children and their families battle cancer, Chip created a foundation to provide families, doctors, and social workers every resource possible to save the life of a child and, at the very least, to provide the child and family with hope.
Nominee Goals:
Starting with a few close friends, Chip established a foundation that spends 100% of the donations they recieve on services to terminally ill children. The goal of the Foundation is "Raising Hope".
Nominee Impact:
The foundation gives away nearly $200,000 a year to area families. There is NO application process. The foundation relies on a network of doctors, nurses, and social workers at area hospitals to provide the names and needs of the children they are treating. The foundation does not compete with other similar organizations. Instead they collaborate with organizations like Make a Wish Foundation to leverage the funds raised.
Why the Nominee Deserves this award?
Chip and his wife Judy are small business owners and Chip is also a Dutchess County Sheriff. Despite this enormous work schedule, he still devotes at least 40 hours a month to a cause that provides meaning for the short life of his then 4 year old son and hope for the hundreds of other children and families that are now fighting their own battle.
