Nominee Services:
Mary volunteers through the DC Office for the Aging as an instructor for the Senior Exercise Program at Interfaith Towers. She was recently recognized by the DC OFA for 10 years of service.
She encourages an active lifestyle for an enhanced quality of life for the residents that attend this program.
Mary has always assisted those in need in her community as needs arise, including shopping, laundry, cleaning, transportation (when she had a vehicle), errands, and in so many ways they are hard to list. She is the type of person that sees a need and immediately starts to think of ways she can be of assistance, then takes action to help in any way she can.
Nominee Goals:
Mary has always sought to be there for anyone in need. One of her main goals when volunteering in our community has been to enable residents that may have a hard time attending our activities to participate, giving them the quality of life that they so richly deserve. She is always on hand to help with our community events. She will volunteer to help prepare food, decorate the community room, set up for the meal and work right along side of us through cleanup! She achieves her goals by using her seemingly endless energy in positive ways to make a difference in the lives of all those around her.
Nominee Impact:
She has a very positive impact on all those around her. Her enthusiasm is contagious, and her willingness to help others truly comes from the heart. Through her selfless volunteering she increases the quality of life for so many. The difference Mary makes in our community is enormous!
Why the Nominee Deserves this award?
I, as the Resident Advisor of Interfaith Towers and our entire staff, would be lost without Mary. She assists us and her neighbors in our community in so many ways. She has a very positive attitude and gives of herself so freely. When the residents are in her company, I have seen her make them laugh when they feel like crying. She is one of the most remarkable people I have ever had the privilege of knowing.
