  Organization:
Council on Addiction Prevention & Education of Dutchess County
  No of Years of Service:
5 years (8-10 Hours per Month)
  Nominee Services:
Rob Ranieri has taken CAPE to a new level. Under his leadership the Board has grown from five to 16 members. The Board has been trained in governance and fund development, has completed our Strategic Plan and is in the process of obtaining New York State approval for the development of an operational foundation which will address the deficit-funded status of the agency.
  Nominee Goals:
In 2007, Rob determined that CAPE's Board needed to regroup to position itself to better promote the agency. He recruited new Board leadership with an emphasis on marketing and financial planning. Rob worked closely with the Executive Director to arrange for Board training. Through that training the following goals were achieved: Board training in governance and fund development, Strategic Plan completed, new website design completed, development of specific committees for marketing and fund development, and a date has been set for our annual fundraising event (February 2011). Rob achieved these goals through his extensive networking and tremendous interpersonal skills.
  Nominee Impact:
Rob's leadership guides the direction of this agency. In 2009, with Rob at the helm of our Board, CAPE served the needs of over 50,000 youth and parents in Dutchess County. Those numbers have grown each year, from 2006 to 2010, with Rob serving as Board President. CAPE services address health and wellness for young people and their parents surrounding risk factors associated with alcohol, tobacco and other drugs as well as violence prevention (bullying) and gambling. CAPE administered a youth risk and protective survey to six public school districts within the county. That information will guide CAPE and other county planning agencies as they develop targeted evidence-based prevention services for youth, adolescents and their families.
Why the Nominee Deserves this award?
Rob Ranieri deserves the Spirit of Dutchess County Award because he is a good, decent and honorable man who uses his time and skills to improve the quality of life in our community. CAPE is not the only not for profit Board that he serves on. Rob is a quiet and humble leader with a quick wit and smile that is infectious. He creates an environment where all ideas are welcome and the folks who present those ideas are valued and respected.
